ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Rashid, AH 170-193 / AD 786-809. Dirham (Silver, 26 mm, 2.83 g, 10 h), Ma'dan al-Shash, AH 190 = AD 805/6. Citing Ali ibn Isa ibn Mahan al-Nasr and the second heir to the caliphate Abd-Allah, the future caliph al-Ma'mun, as 'ibn Amir al-Mu'minin' ('son of the Commander of the Faithful') and as 'Wali Wali 'ahd al-Muslimin' ('successor of the succesor of the covenant of the Muslims' in Kufic); all in Kufic. SICA III, 1980. Sharply struck and beautifully toned. Good extremely fine.
